Aimé Césaire who passed away last week was not only a poet. He was above all a political thinker and practicioner : a man who believed in the power of thoughts and words in changing lives.
Cesaire has died but his thinking will survive him. Eventhough he wrote and spoke in French, Cesaire, it should not be forgotten, was a Creole as he was born and lived in the Creole-speaking French overseas department of Martinique in the Caribbean. Cesaire who coined the concept of negritude preferred to define himself as an “emancipationist” rather than as an “independentiste” (pro-independence) or autonomist (for autonomy). Being well versed in semantics and at the same time a grounded politician, Cesaire knew what words mean.
Emancipation means liberating the minds of men so they can continuously reinvent themselves and move forward. A progressist, he believed that no theory is better at giving an explanation and offering a solution to a problem faced by a group of people than the latter. As he once put it: “Aucune doctrine ne vaut que repenser par nous-meme.”
Hence, Cesaire bring us to realise that indoctrination means an attempt by any group to impose a theory or philosophy on another group by preventing them from thinking it through. It is this attempt at indoctrination which turns any philosophy into an ideology.
Just like communism became an ideology because it was not “repenser”, so does liberalism, the dominant philosophy today, runs the risk of becoming an ideology as liberals are trying to indoctrinate everybody into accepting it without question.
Seen through this angle, liberals constitute the greatest danger to the future of liberalism. Liberals want to apply liberalism to all problems.
The solution to any problem lies in applying the liberal concepts of privatisation, deregulation or liberalization. Moreover, if a liberal solution fails we are told that a better solution is to apply more of the liberal remedy.
When it reaches this point where its precepts cannot be questioned, liberalism becomes fossilised, hence becomes an ideology. It becomes a cause of human sufferings instead of an element of hope. At this point it ceases to be a factor of progress, because as Cesaire once said: “Le progres ne se compte pas par le nombre de vies humaines gaspillées, mais sauvées ”

- Bravo Lepap. Lepap Benoit Sez in ganny bokou aplodi par bann medya dan lemonn swivan son komanter kont bann prêt pedofil Lanmerik.
Pandan son vizit Lanmerik Lepap ti dir ki Legliz Katolik pou tre sever e pous tou bann per katolik ki gany trouve koupab pour bann ka pedofil, ki vedir labi seksyel lo bann zanfan. - Tir dile avek park. - Zwazo menm nik. Valer roupi Morisyen in ogmant par preski 20 poursan.
- Sharing the spoils of victory. In Kenya, the political establishment (ruling party and opposition alike, as they now all belong to a coalition government) seems very happy with the outcome of the political tug of war following the turmoil of the post-election period. Former political foes Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga have given Kenya its largest government made up of 40 ministers and 52 assistant ministers.
This means that nearly one in every two Member of Parliament is a cabinet member. They are also well paid as a minister gets a monthly salary of US$18,000 plus many bonuses. According to BBC the salaries will cost Kenya taxpayers US$1.5 million every month and the bonuses $13 million every year. While the politicians share the spoils of election victory the Kenyan people who have an income per capita of $400 per year await for the dividends of democracy which should be more schools and better health care besides political stability.
- Social christianism. Voters in the South American Republic of Paraguay have elected Fernando Lugo, candidate of the Patriotic Alliance for Change, as their country’s first left-leaning President. A former Roman Catholic Bishop, who is popularly known as the ‘Bishop of the poor’, has promised to implement policies, such as an agrarian reform, that will improve the living conditions of his fellow countrymen.
A broad movement known as social christianism has sprouted out of the inspiration to use the words of Christ to improve the lives of others. It is hoped that Fernando Lugo succeeds where another former Roman Catholic clergy man, Jean-Bertrand Aristide of Haiti, also brought to power by the poor on a wave of hope known as ‘Lavalas’, failed.
- M’beki and his ‘quiet diplomacy’. The rational minds find it hard to understand that South African President Thabo M’beki, the champion of African Renaissance, could stand by Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. This is all the more so when one finds out that there is no love lost between the two leaders and the two ruling parties - ANC in South Africa and ZANU-PF in Zimbabwe - do not have long ties of friendship.
The truth is that beneath the veneer of ‘quiet diplomacy’ promoted by M’beki and his desire to find “African solutions to African problems”, is an old political deal. When Zimbabwe got its independence and Mugabe wanted to go ahead with his land reform ANC which was then still fighting for majority rule in South Africa urged him not to do so as it could harden the whites in South Africa. Mugabe postponed the land reform for geo-political reasons.
- The right to manipulate information. Recently USA’s top-selling daily The New York Times ran a headline with the title “Behind Analysis, the Pentagon’s hidden hand”. According to the article, Pentagon, USA’s military establishment has a well-defined strategy on how to manipulate public opinion.
It seems that in the Land of Freedom those who are powerful have the right to manipulate information so as to influence public opinion and hence the right to be informed of others

Lala lefe liberalizasyon antro
